Skeletal Structure Definition

A skeletal structure is a graphical representation of the arrangement of atoms and bonds in a molecule. 2-D and 3-D Arrangements Skeletal structures are shown in two dimensions where element symbols are used for the atoms and solid lines to represent bonds between them. Multiple bonds are represented by multiple solid lines. ​Double bonds  are shown with two lines and ​triple bonds are shown with three lines. Carbon atoms are implied when two bonds meet and no atom is listed. Hydrogen atoms are implied when the number of bonds is less than four on a carbon atom. Hydrogen atoms are shown if they are not bonded to a carbon atom. 3-D arrangements are represented by solid and hashed  wedges. Solid wedges imply bonds coming towards the viewer and hashed wedges are bonds pointing away from the viewer.

Children are told from an early age that they can become anything they want to be, and people flock in droves to the United States, â€Å"The Land of Opportunities† to achieve this American Dream. Author, James T. Adams, coined the term American Dream in his book â€Å"The Epic of America† as, That dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement.† (Adams p.214-215) It is true, people in this country do have the opportunities to become anything they want to be. For many, obtaining a college degree is their route to success. By 2018, 60% of jobs in America will require a college degree. Teachers have the benefit of weekends and holidays off and longer summer vacations than most other careers. One incentive that isn’t offered by this career is a high salary. The national average salary of a high school teacher is $57,200. (Occupational Outlook Handbook) Teaching is one of the lowest paying careers that require a bachelor’s degree. In addition to lower pay, there isn’t typically a high demand for English teachers. The highest demand for teachers is in the fields of math and science. (Occupational Outlook Handbook) Considering the national average of $96,244 for a bachelor’s degree at a public university and the national average pay of a high school teacher, it makes the dream of becoming a high school English teacher seem harder to attain. Many factors can go into making a bachelor’s degree in English with teacher licensure more attainable. One of which is choosing an affordable university to attend. The Reconstruction Era Essay The Civil War was one of the bloodiest wars in American history. Its damage to America was profound. It tore at the very fiber of America itself. The Reconstruction Era Essay however was as damaging to America as the Civil War itself. Its damage has its roots in the reasons America went to civil war. In the time leading up to the Civil War the south was unhappy so they decided to leave the Union. They thought it was okay to leave if they were unhappy, while the North thought it was wrong. So the two sides went to war. After all was said and done the North had won and now faced the difficult task of reincorporating the South in to the Union once again, as well as rebuilding the South after being torn apart by the war. It was widely believed that Reconstruction was successful, when in fact, as stated by Eric Foner, it was a complete failure. It changed very little in the South. After the Civil War, America was a nation in crisis. The crisis that was faced by all America tore deep in to everyday life. The crisis faced by Congress was what to do with the states that had left the Union. How should they be let in; should they be let in at all; what do they have to do in order to be readmitted in to the Union? These were some of the questions that came before congress along with how they could keep the rebel leaders out of power to prevent this from happening again. If the Confederate leaders were to be left alone would they try to rebel once again? Another problem faced by America was the fact that Abraham Lincoln was dead and now Andrew Johnson was President. Neither the North nor the South liked him. His policies on Reconstruction upset so many that Congress attempted to impeach him, falling short by one vote on the necessary 2/3 of Congress needed to impeach a president. Johnson was a Southerner who was in office when the war broke out, got caught going against the South. This immediately alienated him from the South, while during Reconstruction Johnson pardoned many of the Confederate leaders Congress desired to punish. That alienated him from the North. Of course the big problems of Reconstruction were that the North and South were at odds against each other. They did not like one another nor did they care about what happened to the other side. Actually the North had an interest in seeing the South become more industrial like the North. With that there was the problem of the freedmen, the Southerners did not see them as part of society and treated them as such. In the beginning of Reconstruction, the blacks were able to take part in government and even hold office, but due to the failings of Johnsons Reconstruction policy, the plantation owners who were once in control before were now in power again. So in reality after a couple of years the South had not changed one bit. Black oppression continued after the war, with the passing of the 14th amendment blacks were to be given the right to vote. But the Southern whites found ways to rob the Freedmen out of their right to vote. The set up literacy tests and came up with Grandfather rules and things of that nature. They used any means necessary to prevent blacks from voting. The whites even separated schools and fountains and other public places. They even used fear to intimidate blacks in to submission; this is where the Ku Klux Klan came in. They were started as a southern fraternity that evolved in to a hate club, for lack of a better term. THINK YOURE DONE EDITING? TAKE A STEP BACK. A writer’s work is never done. When you’re writing, you can get so wrapped up in the proofreading and editing process that you miss a HUGE oversight or error in your copy. This goes for all writing – whether it’s a marketing letter, a web page, or a novel. So, when you think you’re done writing and editing and proofreading everything, you’ve got one more milestone to go: Take a step back and examine your work from the 50-thousand foot level. Now isn’t the time to get bogged down by periods and commas; you need to look at the big picture. Check your work for consistency and make sure you address some of these issues: †¢ Does the organization need any work? Your copy should flow logically from Point A to Point B. Make sure you’re not missing any steps and that you have strong links connecting each and every paragraph. †¢ Have you effectively addressed your reader? You need to make it clear that your reader knows that you have exactly what he wants. This means that all of the features of your product or service need to have a clearly outlined benefit to the reader (see our previous blog about benefits). †¢ Do your differentiators stand out? Be vigilant about making your company’s vital information clear and easy to understand – all of your paragraphs should lead off with a differentiator, and the first paragraph especially should explain and summarize to the reader why they can’t live without your product or service. †¢ Are there any logical errors? It can be easy to skip over vital information about something that you know very well – after all, you’re an expert on your company. Double check all of your explanations for clarity, making sure to spell out simply and concisely every aspect of your company (even if you think it’s silly, it could answer a reader’s question). So, how can you ensure that your copy passes the 50-thousand foot level test? A few strategies to try: †¢ Give yourself some distance. Step away from the computer for a few hours and let your mind relax. Come back to your copy in the morning with a fresh set of eyes. †¢ Let someone else read it. Don’t give it to your mom or your closest co-worker: Try to pick someone who can give you an honest opinion, and preferably someone who doesn’t know anything about your product, service, company, or idea. Listen to any questions they may have or sources of any confusion – this is valuable information to a writer! †¢ Print it out. Everything looks different on paper than it does on a screen.
